The day 2 highlights from the Arab Fashion Week Mens for SS22
The second day of the Men’s Arab Fashion Week has featured 5 regional and international designers who premiered their fashion films for Spring-Summer 2022. Below are some of the key highlights of the second day.
TODD HESSERT
Member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America
Todd Hessert showcased his MetaHuman collection during the Arab Fashion Week Men’s Official calendar, in a fully virtual fashion show, rendered in 3D in a set of the extraterrestrial space. The American contemporary artist, fashion designer adopts an “all possibilities” mind-set. His inspiration is derived from the cognition and interpretation of the complex social culture, particularly the intersection of sustainable design and technology. Todd attaches his sense of design to the mysterious and cosmic universe, deeming that our inner world is an empowered and explorative existence. He believes our perception of the world is the echoing of our evolving heart and conscience. At the moment of making a decision or taking an action, no matter how small or large, we are always guided by morality, wisdom, interest, temptation, and ambition. The artist captures the essence of existing social and environmental elements, embodying his own insightfulness and observations, with the creation of genderless pieces. He references his collections as an emotional come-back to his true roots. The rationale behind his work is his past experiences, gained knowledge and scientific reflection.
This season, Todd has made the theme of super realistic virtual show by using Maya and other software, he named it “MetaHuman”. The theme expresses the designer’s view that in this changeable world, virtual human and virtual clothing break the boundary between the real and the virtual world, make the boundary more and more fuzzy. He thinks virtual clothing has become one of the trends in the world fashion market. In special circumstances, super realistic virtual fashion have become the substitute for real fashion and more and more attention has been paid to. Todd uses high-level super realism technology to design the collection and inherits the tech-prints to give fashion which brings sense of future vision, it fully embodies the DNA of the brand.
LGN, LOUIS GABRIEL NOUCHI
Presented by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) on the Arab Fashion Week Men’s Official calendar, the Parisian fashion label has showcased its Spring Summer 2022 collection during the second day of the fashion week.
Always influenced by literature, Louis Gabriel Nouchi presents this season “UNAUTHORIZED”. Without naming the novel, Louis Gabriel delivers his definition of sensuality, inspired by one of the most famous French authors, who retraces in her work with autobiographical features, her childhood and her adolescence in French Indochina. In a warm and humid atmosphere, the silhouettes intermingle, brush against each other and reveal the forbidden love story between a young girl and a rich Chinese lover. This collection marks the advent of homewear; indoor bathrobes, striped pajamas, satin lingerie. The notion of indoor clothing to be worn outside is taken to its peak. It symbolizes the fluidity of genres, while retaining the tailor-made construction codes and the brand’s own elegance.
LGN favors natural materials on all silhouettes such as linen, used for several seasons, Cupro, organic cotton. For this new collection, he works with natural coffee, beech and hazelnut-based dyes to create a range of softness. A new pattern inspired by marbled papers adorns iconic pieces, a nod to the interiors of old books. This pattern is available in different techniques – Digital printing on viscose, knitted jacquard for a mat and shiny tone-on-tone pattern, burned out on a jersey base for transparency, or lasered on denim.

YASQUEEN
The Iranian – Istanbul based designer Neda Sadeghi and the creative director of YasQueen, showcased its SS22 collection mainly dominated by unusual black blazers strapped in tribute to the darkness and year of losses that 2020 has been and the creative depression caused by suppression. In 2016, Neda moved to Turkey to proceed with her fashion designer career. Due to being away from her hometown and the need to adjust to the new environment, she put her career on pause for a short period in Turkey. Despite all the struggles, she would spend her time playing the piano and find inspiration from music and colors to benefit her fashion line. After the pandemic hit, she started to realize the full potential of the year 2020 and took it as an opportunity for her collection and to launch her new menswear collection, inspired by the darkness and numerous losses in 2020 which led to light and revival in her design.
LAZOSCHMIDL
Presented by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) on the Arab Fashion Week Men’s Official calendar, the Parisian fashion label has showcased his Spring Summer 2022 collection during the second day of the fashion week.
Lazoschmidl presented this season the Spring Summer 2022 collection under the name “Overdose” is all over the place and over the top. It re-introduces the concept of copy. The copy of previous prints and garments reimagined, and the use of copy in terms of language. Advertisement slogans and online shopping commands.
Consumerism is, in fact, sexy. And needed for the very own mental health. Delivering its own message of have nothing, and losing everything, but the possibility of having something. The collection featured an array of prints. The infamous cow prints. Op-art. Naive daisy flowers. Psychedelic lava print. Oh, and there is some tie-dye. It is very German techno in Los Angeles 2022. The brand added some butterfly tops, too, for your amusement. Fabrics, again, feature recycled PET bottles, super soft fluffy mohair knits, kinky patent and some sweaty sweats. It is a sugar-coated candy overdose.
