“Like everyone, we get frustrated by products that are ineffective. As design engineers, Dyson’s mission is to solve problems that others ignore. At Dyson’s core, a passionate team of engineers and scientists thrive off idea and invention.
Dyson designs and manufactures a variety of household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, noise-cancelling headphones, air purifiers, hand dryers, bladeless fans, heaters and lights, alongside pioneering hair care products that are disrupting the beauty world.
Dyson first entered the personal care market with the launch of the revolutionary Supersonic™hairdryer in 2016. Dyson engineers found that a powerful airflow could be achieved if air was taken into a motor and accelerated over an annular aperture – this is the iconic ring-shaped head that is unique to Dyson. In 2016, the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer was launched, shortly becoming one of the must-have products of the year.
Just two years after the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer hit the shelves, a new way to dry and style hair within one tool was revealed: the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler. Launched in 2018, the engineering within the Dyson Airwrap™ multi-styler once again reinvented the format of traditional styling tools and used air (instead of heat) to curl hair with the Coanda effect. The product took social media by storm and was almost impossible to get your hands on when it first launched.
Dyson continued to innovate and improve hair care offerings and in 2020, launched the Corrale™ straightener – the first and only straightener with flexing plate technology that delivers enhanced styling with half the damage. In 2024, the revolutionary Dyson Airstrait™ was launched, which offered wet to dry styling with air and no hot plates.
Most recently Dyson expanded into the audio category, and launched its latest headphones, the Dyson OnTrac™. Featuring best in-class noise cancelation and designed for all day comfort, it provides up to 55 hours of battery life on a single charge, along with an ergonomic design and customisable caps and cushions.
Passion on expanding and accelerating research and technology development across the beauty portfolio is key at Dyson. Most recently the company has committed to investing half a billion GBP to launch 20 new beauty products in the next three years.
Developing technology for all hair types remains a crucial focus for the research and development teams. For too long, there has been both a misunderstanding and misrepresentation across styling tools to truly cater for different hair types, while preserving hair from heat damage. This investment will create new lab spaces to both sharpen Dyson’s understanding of global hair types and damage, while also support the continued diversification of Dyson’s beauty technology.”
